Heya Fellas,
I'm a fan of weirdly shaped guitars. Post them here. This is a Washburn HM-20v. I owned one of these for a while. It was white with red binding around everything, neck-thru, 24 fret, tapable pickups, and the Wonderbar! trem system. I wish I still had it.
Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 14, 2007, 1:12pm
A 3 octave, 36 fret, 8 string guitar. How are you supposed to play those upper frets? I guess you could tap them with the side of your pick or something. Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 14, 2007, 1:28pm
Lots of gun guitars out there. I like this one:
Anybody have any NITRO? Apparently one of their tunes features the longest "scream" in metal of all time. And wiki also credits them for doing blast beats early on. I think I must purhase an album based on the pictures alone. Re: Weird Guitars Post by emosewasiekim on Jul 16, 2007, 8:07pm

^HAHA!
Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 16, 2007, 10:00pm
Is that last one a Queensryche (sp?) guitar? I went with some buddies to a kweensrike concert round '96. It was pretty sad. The arena was about half full and one of my friends actually fell asleep during the show. NEat-o axe though. Nice photo.

d**n, when i saw Queensryche, they were on tour with Fates Warning and Dream Theater. it was summer of '06... but i think that's another thread
they're not really *weird* to me i guess, but here's my two 7 strings, an Ibanez RG7620 and RG7621.
and here's my 1985 Ibanez XV500
i have since changed the pickup rings to black ones, along with some electronics.Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 17, 2007, 10:11am
You know I used to own two X series guitars!!! A DT250 and a DT300 I think. I scalloped half the frets on the 300. I need to stop selling guitars! Anybody know about the new Ibanez V?Re: Weird Guitars Post by leon on Jul 17, 2007, 10:16am
the Xyphos? or that other one... crap... can't remember LOL
Not sure if its in stock or not though. They had issues with the V-Blade this year cuz of neck twisting. Next years supply should be alot better apparently.
Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 17, 2007, 8:23pm
The new Ibanez V looks like something I'll eventually have to get. I wish thay had more options for colors/finish.Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 17, 2007, 8:31pm
This is the guy from Cheap Trick no?

^Another Batio ....
^And its FUGLY twin. lol
Oh, and that quad guitar earlier in the thread... apparently it was stolen a long time ago... and a couple of years ago was tracked down. (well, kind of anyway)
Only pieces left haha.Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 18, 2007, 8:11am
A pic of my old Ibanez X DT300. Hope it has a good home now. Re: Weird Guitars Post by emosewasiekim on Jul 18, 2007, 3:07pm
^What are the Pickups on that? Doesn't look stock to me, the bottom looks like a bill lawrence.Re: Weird Guitars Post by leon on Jul 18, 2007, 3:15pm
well, that's definitely a Pro-Rocker Trem! thank goodness the previous owner of my XV put in a real Floyd
...and, contrary to how bad that Pro-Rocker Trem was, i really like the style of the locking nut, how it's on the headstock, and not at the nut.
i think that pickup is stock, as well. there were X2N-styled pickups stock in my XV, but again, the previous owner swapped them out into another guitar (since he liked them so much).
i put a Tone Zone / Air Norton in mine.Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 18, 2007, 3:51pm
Yeah, the bridge pickup is stock. Looks like an X2N and has high output. I think they call them Ibanez V5 Pickups. I took out the neck V5 and put it in the bridge position of my HM-20v. The neck PU pictured above was some piece of crap that came in an older guitar (Kamen Applause I think). I've never owned any X2Ns, but the V5s would scream just fine. And yeah, those Por-Rocker trems were worthless (mine was anyways).
I dug up a pic of my HM-20v with the V5 in place. I paid about $600 for the guitar in '93 and sold it for $600 in '02. I wish I had kept it but I had just lost my job and needed money. It had an awesome case too.
And here's a pic of the other X. This one was the DT 250 I think. It was very easy to play. Not as easy as my Rocket Roll 2. Sold it to help pay for the Laney. I have vowed to never sell guitars again. Note the giant cat. Re: Weird Guitars Post by leon on Jul 18, 2007, 8:23pm
the white one is dead sexy! any chance of tracking it down?Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 18, 2007, 10:25pm
Nope. I didn't sell it through Ebay so there are no sales records. There are a lots of dudes who want one and I just found a couple in some forums and made offers. The red and gold one a few posts back is on Ebay for like $900 w/ a "buy it now" price of $1300. I think this is too much (even w/ the EMGs). I guess it might depend on the modifications. Ebay is probably the best bet.Re: Weird Guitars Post by emosewasiekim on Jul 23, 2007, 8:29pm
The guitar bass is pretty weird. Seems like it would be hard to fret notes on the bass side. You would have to reach over the guitar neck right? I guess you could reach over the top a la Michael Angelo Batio.
Those resonator bars on the birdfish guitar look like rocket launchers or something. Too many video games for me! I'd like to hear how it sounds though. I wish they had audio samples on their site.

Is that red and white console guitar a real game system? I've never seen a console like that. I should play more video games.
-CRe: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 23, 2007, 10:36pm
This is weird and creepy. It's really creepy if you imagine some creepy guy playing it. Needless to say, it gives me the creeps. http://www.musicgadgets.net/images/Teenar_front.jpgRe: Weird Guitars Post by hipchip on Jul 23, 2007, 10:47pm
Not sure how to add a photo, but check this site and click under guitars. http://cambium.com/matthewgrasso/ This is for East Indian style music. Re: Weird Guitars Post by emosewasiekim on Jul 24, 2007, 1:09am

hmmmmm decisions decisions... lol Re: Weird Guitars Post by hipchip on Jul 24, 2007, 9:06pm
Check out the guitars in http://cambium.com/matthewgrasso/ This is my classical professor and he plays East Indian music. These guitars are designed for that and have 7 strings that are played and something like 20 sympathetic strings. Pretty cool.[img][/img]
I tried to insert a photo, but couldn't figure out how for sure. On Matt's site there are several photo's, check it out! Dan'o :}Re: Weird Guitars Post by hipchip on Jul 25, 2007, 1:22pm

Those things are called Keytars. They are for keyboardists who want to run around free. This one looks dangerous.Re: Weird Guitars Post by emosewasiekim on Jul 31, 2007, 6:52pm
Carraaaazy Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Jul 31, 2007, 9:37pm
Seems like if you were going to use the above guitar for a show, jeans and a t-shirt would not be enough. You would need to wear a full suit of armor and enter the stage on a glorious steed.

I had no Idea you could get such crazy shapes from Warmoth!
Speaking of custom guitars... Have you ever heard of RAN Guitars Chris?
They take custom orders and ship worldwide (based in europe i think) But supposedly they are not that expensive and pretty good for the money. Might be worth some checking out.
ranguitars.com
EDIT: They are pretty cheap as far as custom orders go lol. Still pretty expensive though. (just checked) Re: Weird Guitars Post by admin on Aug 3, 2007, 11:31am
I really like what I'm seeing over at Ran Guitars. Seems like it would be a great deal even with international shipping and taxes and stuff.

Touch-style playing is an innovative art which reaches its full potential on the Warr Guitar Series. On one neck you can simultaneously play lead, bass, and rhythm parts. You can play in an upright or horizontal (guitar-style) position. You can use your favorite techniques such as tap, pick, strum, pluck, slap, or pop; and, you'll love the 24 fret, five-octave range. The possibilities are endless on the Artist, allowing you to create your own unique sound.
there are some sweet videos on you tube where the guy demonstrating tells you that it can be processed to different ways so you can distort half of it and keep the other half clean. also, he shows how you can play bass lines and solo using the "touch style" of playing...
