I get a few questions now and then about amps and stuff. Are you happy with your tone? Post a pic of your rig here and explain how you get your sound. There's also a site out there called www.guitargeek.com that has similar info. I go out of an Ibanez Rocket Roll 2 into a BOSS Super Overdrive that's Velcroed to the inside of the rack case. All knobs on the BOSS are at 12 O'Clock. Out of that I go into the KORG Tuner, then into CH1 of the ISP Decimator. Then I go into the LANEY GH50L. The Laney is a single channel all tube amp. This means if I want clean I have to reach over and turn the thing down. I've never needed clean. The knobs are set like this: Presence=5, Low=5, Mid=4, High=5, Master=Varies, Gain=7, Drive=Varies (The more I turn up the Master, the less drive I need). CH2 of the ISP is in the Effects Loop. I believe the ISP is the best noise reduction you can get (expensive but worth it). The cabinet is custom made. This means I bought the box and put the speakers in myself because I'm cheap. The speakers are Eminence Legends. You can hear this rig on the new CD. Check out the first song on the main site www.cavera.com. That's about it.

Hmmm, not real sure. I'd probably use at least 2 mics, one at the 12 and 1 and the 15...then try a few different placements. You could also try a large diaphragm condensor 2 to 3 feet away. Ya gonna get one?
I have the non-stereo dual channel ProRack G. They have two non-stereo dual-channels listed at the friend and one is about $50 cheaper...I'm not sure what the difference is supposed to be. I assume the stereo version has 2 seperate stereo channels. I suppose you would need this for a stereo cab, stereo FX loop, and stereo effects pedals. I don't have any of that stuff. I'm really happy with the ProRackG.

It would be really nice if I could get one. Once I unload my other one I will evaluate where I am at. The frontrunner right now is an Avatar 212 because I can order one loaded with celestion gt-100s. If I can't/don't get the avatar, a 412 would be in the picture. That Randall there is pretty nice, a little pricey... but really good considering their SS heads are Reaaaallly bassy. I have no idea what a 212/115 cab would sound like... would be interesting though.
I know if I do order a 412 it won't be from MF though. Their shipping charges suck hard. I am planning on ordering from zzsounds. They have like 5.99 standard on everything. Even huge cabs. It would probably take a bit longer... but I don't really care. I have waited a couple months already, what are a couple more? lol
I could go for the cheapo Randall 412, its rated at 200 watts, with Jaguar speakers. But I have read a bunch of reviews saying they felt the G2 head overpowered the cab. I don't know if thats true, the Randall cabs may just suck. At least the cheap ones anyway.
ISP has a pedal version of the Decimator I have been eyeing for a while though. Nice shiny chrome too. lol

If you want you can buy my Rocktron Hush pedal for $30. They pretty much work. They pretty much, kinda, sorta half-way work. Sorta. It pooped out on me once so I opened it up and tightened the battery connection. Works good now. It would be best to get you rig put together first and then decided if you need any noise reduction.

Hmm... I'll see what I can scrounge up this weekend. If I can I'll let you know on Monday. I pretty much know that I want some Noise Reduction because I get a fair amount of hum through my headphones. And with the distortion that the Randall dishes out, theres bound to be some noise lol.

i don't know if i have any good pics of everything together, but here's my rig in .txt... guitars: (main) Ibanez RG7620 with DiMarzio Evo7 & Blaze Neck Ibanez RG7621 with DiMarzio Blaze Custom and Air Norton 7 (both 7's wired with two push/pulls for series/parallel pickup configs) Ibanez RG570 with Tone Zone / Air Norton and Tremol-No Ibanez XV500 with TZ/AN Ibanez RoadstarII Ibanez AEG classical amps: Mesa/Boogie Nomad 45 2x12 combo Sovtek Mig 100H (JCM800 clone w/ 6L6's) effects: G-Major Boss DS-1 (strictly for the Sovtek) Crybaby wah (modded to Hendrix specs w/ mid boost) DOD Envelope filter plans for the future include: building a new "head case" for the Nomad, to separate it into a head + cab, then loading said cab with a Mesa C90 for the Nomad, and a 150w 12" speaker suitable for the Sovtek (suggestions?), and running the amps stereo. X2 wireless edit: found some

When you run them stereo...are you going to use one for clean and one for dist with a switcher pedal, or both clean both dist with some sort of global channel switcher? Sounds complicated and interesting. Once you get your recording setup going I'd love to hear what the Sovtech sounds like. I heard one many years ago that had an amazing clean sound.

PS. Nice "Marsh" cab.

LOL. yeah, the Marsh cab came with a broken Marshall VS100 head and the Sovtek, from BG Music/Sound. i eventually sold the Marsh stack for rent money as far as the stereo thing, what i've done thus far is this... guitar -> wah -> envelope filter -> Morley ABY: A -> Nomad w/ G-Major in FX loop B -> DS-1 -> Sovtek ...so that i can dedicate the DS-1 to the Sovtek, and make the wah global. depending on the song, i might leave the Sovtek on 'clean' and run the 2nd channel on the Nomad (makes for a great RHCPepper lead tone), or run the Nomad ch3 with the Sovtek clean for rhythm, then punch the DS-1 for heavy parts. but generally, the switcher stays on Y, running signal into both amps at all times. the cleans on the Sovtek are great! of course, when you're really juicing the pre-amp, i'll pull my knobs up for parallel humbucking mode, to help keep the levels down. but generally, i don't do much clean playing on it \m/

^ ROFL As for the ENGL thing... I don't know how many people around here have played through them considering they aren't the easiest find in the US. I have heard tons of clips from them though. Probably my dream amp would be an ENGL. You can dial in an amazing dark tone with those things with gratuitous amounts of gain, but still controlled. Alot tighter then say, a Dual/Triple Rectifier would be. I'll try to find some decent user clips from other boards for ya. I think one of the best places to find/order one is rocksolidamps.com Their line-up is great. They also carry some Splawn and Framus stuff too. Very cool site. \m/ Ah yes, a boy can dream ...

i think an Engl might actually be too tight for what i like. at least... i played a Deizel Einstein once, which is something like a $4k head+1x12 cab. it was so tight that it didn't sound natural anymore. didn't sound tube. it was more like a modeler. i love high gain tones, but i also like having some grit in there
