I tried a 714CE once and loved it and it's sound reminded me of the 70's band America. I have been told to check out a 514CE also as the back and sides are mahogany whereas the 714 is rosewood. I primarily play Blues and was just wondering if anybody had any experience with these two models and would recommend one over the other for blues? Can't find a 514 in my area to try. Dan'o :} out on the left coast.

Hey Dan!
Great to know you're still out there. This forum's been pretty quiet lately so I'm not sure you'll get many replies. I'm afraid I don't have a lot of experience with acoustic guitars. You could try harmony central but their reviews should be taken with a grain of salt.

I honestly like the sound of Rosewood as a sidewood to mahogany, just a different sound. Though I also prefer Cherry for its lush sound over both of those, so if there's a Taylor made with Cherry sides I'd check that out. The one you played though seems to be pretty good, and if it plays well and sounds good it should be a keeper!

Hi Chris, still out here and finally getting healthy, so maybe I'll be able to get back to where I was RE recording before I got sick. Gettin old sucks!
I really liked the sound of the Ceder top and the rosewood back and sides, but hear so many nice things about HOG guitars. I've checked out Youtube and the differences I hear on there make me lean toward the 514, but then again the 714 doesn't sound like what I played, so who knows. Guess I could always get both!? What the heck, that'd only be about $4500+!
If anybody wants a Taylor guitar, check out Guitar Rodeo. Best prices I've found for Taylors, even MUCH better than used on E-Bay. Dan'o :}
